Roughly 10 years ago, The Withering Pines began tracking a follow up record to their debut, Into Corners. Over time, these songs eventually were written, tracked, mixed and recorded in numerous home studios, basements and living rooms in Ottawa and Toronto. Throughout this process, our lives changed. We as individuals grew up, became complicated, responded to the world around us, got happy, got sad, got sick, got better. Got on with things.

Throughout the process of getting the songs where they needed to be, we realized the songs couldn’t keep up with our trajectory of the inevitable need to keep looking forward with what life had to offer. We assessed and reassessed how to deliver them in a way that made sense to us as we grew. Ultimately, we decided to let them rest. For a little while. Let things simmer. Wait for the right time. See how it goes.

Take a break.

Well, here we are. Still on a break – but ready to share with you some songs that have been held away all these years. We sincerely hope you enjoy them at a time where finding enjoyment might be a bit harder to do.

While this is a new release to those outside our living rooms, it is a time capsule for us. A look at where our heads and hearts were at the time. A reminder of how great life can be. A motivator to be creative with people you care about. An example of how to satiate the need for creative outlets. A reason to share art in hopes that it makes someone’s day a bit brighter – even if it’s just for a little while.

It really was a marvellous time making these songs. I don’t think any of us knew the sky could be so blue.
